Activity Spotlight: Key Club

By Kelly Schaefer

January 26, 2010

Welcome to an inside peek at what the students are calling the new and improved Rock Falls High School Key Club.  There are exciting changes this year, the least of which is my becoming the new advisor.  Impressively, membership has increased from just 20 members last year to 77 this year!  Members have been active in many community service projects since the beginning of the school year.  Here is a quick run through:

    > Kiwanis “peanut Days”
    > Donated $100 to a CGH program for underprivileged children in need of eye glasses
    > NICIL Walk-n-roll
    > Crop Walk
    > Painted local business windows for RFHS Homecoming
    > Homeless Sleep out generated $1300 for the PADS Shelter
    > Collected $195 in pocket change for UNICEF
    > Participated in a rake-n-run, along with thespians, student council, and ACE club
    > Decorated and donated a Christmas tree for Hospice auction at the mall – the tree           auctioned for $100!
    > Some members judged a coloring contest for RF elementary students
    > Dillon School Christmas Party
    > Salvation Army bell ringing

Specific members donated time at Happy Tails, CGH,  Head Start, and clothing centers
Presently the Key Club is preparing for the Winter Semi-formal Dance to be held January 17th here at the school.  The theme is “Mardi Gras.” We hope for great success.  Details will follow at the upcoming meeting.

Future plans include:
    > A pancake breakfast with the RF Kiwanis to support the baby pantry in town
    > Highway 30 clean up
    > Spring banquet
